TRADITION & PHILOSOPHY

In nineteen hundred and fifteen, workers began building Camp Greylock, a summer home for growing boys. Greylock was the realization of an ideal: a natural environment of group living and athletic instruction where campers would learn the value of friendship, effort and respect.

92 years later, Greylock continues to impart these values. We
strive to make Camp Greylock a safe place where children are taught to
become self-reliant, self-respecting, and self-controlled; where they
develop their bodies through athletic activities and their minds through
new experiences. Above all, we aspire to teach, through inspirational
example and practical guidance, the value of sportsmanship, effort and
consideration of others.

What we want for campers and for ourselves can be summed up in less than
10 words:

To learn and have fun in a safe environment.


PEOPLE

-Our Campers come from all over the U.S. and from several foreign
countries. They learn, play, compete, and socialize in a beautiful
environment that is fun, challenging, and supportive. They are a wonderful
group of young men. Many are second and third generation Greylockers - as
are many of their counselors.

-Our staff is comprised of highly motivated young men and women wishing to
make a positive difference in the lives of children. They are recruited
from major U.S. colleges, and a few are from around the world. Most of
our counselors are returning staff members and many are former
campers. They have completed at least 1 year of college, and most are
upper classmen and graduate students. Our group heads and department
heads are mature and experienced leaders who are often teachers and
professional coaches.

"When we think of summer our thoughts are about our sons at Camp
Greylock. The counselor staff is composed of role models accomplished in
academics, the arts, and athletics. These individuals instruct and direct
our boys toward healthy lifetime goals. They learn to play the game
according to the rules and are encouraged to do their best to reach their
full potential. Greylock represents a place for a unique combination of
physical and mental growth. As parents we focus on how much our sons are
growing by being a part of Greylock, its environment, its people, its
future."

We conduct ourselves and our program with the aim of helping boys grow into
well rounded men who will live their lives with a sense of dignity, skill,
kindness and joy.
